Niche Site Keyword Research Strategy that Generate Sales Even with Zero Domain Authority

I have seen niche bloggers like you in many blogging forums struggling to generate leads or make sales from your affiliate programs even when you feel like your SEO game is solid. Facts, you might have nailed your content game, your backlink strategy and other SEO aspects but you may not get the expected result because the FOUNDATION is weak. And that FOUNDATION is KEYWORD RESEARCH.

I was in your shoes 7 years ago when I started blogging. I never knew how to do keyword research for niche sites. I just knew people were making money from their blogs even while they slept. I wanted to replicate their results so badly, but I didn’t get it right. I spent my first 3 years blogging with nothing to show for it. No real traffic, not to mention earning in dollars.

At that point, I knew I wasn’t doing something right. I realized I had been carried away by the big cashout screenshot floating on my timeline. I only focused on getting the results without investing in the process.

My story changed from the 4th year into my blogging journey when I saw a FREE SEO training class hosted by one of my biggest blogging mentors then. This training opened my eyes to niche site keyword research and how it is the foundation of the most successful niche blogs out there.

I practiced what I learned from this training and was able to rank my website in the 1st Position of the SERP using a low, competitive keyword.

Ever since then, I have been able to grow multiple niche blogs from $0 to $100+ monthly. I was also able to take multiple keywords to page 1 in less than 24 hours of indexing. My many years of practice led me to discover this niche site keyword research strategy that always works like magic.

What is this strategy?

I call it the result-oriented keyword research strategy. With this strategy, you approach your keyword research process with the result you wish to achieve. For all niche sites, the primary keyword research goal is usually to get a keyword that satisfies the following condition;

  1. The keyword targets people who want to buy
  2. The keyword is not difficult or competitive
  3. The keyword has a good search volume

Let’s dive into these considerations;

  1. The keyword targets people who want to buy

This aspect is about what SEOs call “keyword intent”. It simply means the motive behind the searcher of the keyword. For example, if I own a fitness blog and I want my visitors to buy an exercise bike through my affiliate link on my site, I’d rather write on keywords like ‘’best exercise bike for tall person’’, and not keywords ‘’how to use an exercise’’

Both keywords are good but the results they bring are different. The person searching for the first keyword is likely to be a tall person willing to buy an exercise bike that perfectly fits him but the latter person already owns an exercise bike and just wants a guide

Since your aim for having a niche site is to make money with it, you can’t do without these types of keywords. However, this doesn’t rule out the need for other types of keywords because they play their role in making your niche site look less spammy to search engines.

2. The keyword is not difficult to rank (low competitive)

Targeting a difficult or highly competitive keyword is like being in the forest with lions where both of you compete for goats. No one has to tell you that you’re on the verge of losing. The same is the case for targeting difficult keywords. Your website might never see the light of the Google first page not to mention the top 3. So it’s better to play it safe with your niche blog by targeting low-difficulty keywords.

3. The keyword has a good search volume

There’s no point in targeting a keyword that no one is searching for. If the global monthly search volume is below 50, you shouldn’t bother writing about it except the keyword is worth it. If not, ignore it. No search volume equals no traffic, and without traffic, there are no leads, no sales and no revenue.

Proper steps to do keyword research for niche sites that won’t fail you

Here comes the real deal after knowing about these conditions to consider when finding the best keywords for your niche site.

For this strategy, I’ll be using SEMrush because they have more realistic Keyword Difficulty data. Other tools you can use include; Ahref, and Moz. But let’s do this with SEMrush.

  1. Create an SEMrush account

If you already have an account you can skip this step and log in. If you don’t have one you can sign up here. Fill in the required details and click on “Create Account”. The next step is to confirm your email by entering the code sent to your inbox.

  1. Choose your free trial plan

With the free trial, you can get enough keywords for your niche site and still cancel your order in case you’re not willing to proceed with the plan. You may choose to skip too, but that will be at the expense of this keyword research strategy.

  1. Pick SEO as your area of interest

  1. Navigate ‘’Keyword Magic Tool’’ on the SEMrush Dashboard

On this page, input a seed word related to your niche or related to the next topic that you want to write about in the ‘’Enter Keyword’’ search box. I’ll be assuming an exercise bike niche for this tutorial, so if I’m in the exercise bike niche, I’ll type “exercise bike” and hit the search button, and it will return a list of keywords and some important metrics as shown in the image below;

  1. Use the filter feature to get the best keywords for your niche site

This is the most important part of this keyword research strategy because it is the part strategy that gets you the keywords that satisfy these conditions;

  • The keyword targets people who want to buy
  • The keyword is not difficult or competitive
  • The keyword has a good search volume

You’ll find the filter options in the menu bar. See screenshot below;

Now, do the following;

  • Use the ‘’KD%’’ option to filter for keywords that are not difficult or competitive
  • Use the ‘’Intent’’ option to filter for keywords that target people who want to buy or be educated

You may explore others but these two metrics mentioned are the most important for now.

Here’s how to do it;

Click on ‘’KD%’’ and you will have something like the image below;

Here, you should choose ‘’Very Easy’’ or ‘’Easy’’. You should only go ‘’Easy’’ when you don’t have enough ‘’Very Easy’’ Keywords.

Next is  clicking on ‘’Intent’’ and you’ll have this below;

At this point, you’re expected to choose ‘’Commercial’’ for keywords that target people who want to buy. These are the keywords that fetch you money on your niche site. You can also target others when necessary.

  1. Have your niche site keywords

After selecting those filter options you’ll automatically have something like the screenshot below;

If you observe the KD, Intent and Volume of the keywords above you will notice that they satisfy our expected results which are having keywords that have low KD, Buyer intent, and Good Search Volume.

There you have your niche site keywords. Want more keywords? Repeat the steps again and again to generate as many keywords as you want.
